LED Tube Lighting For Industrial Uses

In the past florescent tube lighting have been used for a wide range of purposes. Their long design allows light to pass through a relatively wide space, filling up areas longitudinally. You may find these lights used in homes and offices, but they have also been employed for industrial purposes.

Unfortunately, the nature of florescent bulbs are similar to those of high pressure sodium, metal halide or other high intensity discharge bulbs. They simply use up too much energy. Not only are these less energy efficient, but they are much less cost effective. The energy used to create the florescent light is wasted with larger proportions of electricity expended as heat energy.

With LED lighting, very little energy is wasted as heat. Not only that, much less electrical energy is required to power them in the first place.

LED Replacement Tube Bulbs

At OEO we have two main tube light LED replacement bulbs. They are the OEO EZ LED T5-HO and OEO EZ LED T8 which come in both retrofit and direct replacement options. Florescent tube lights require ballasts to both have enough energy to turn them on as well as limit the amount of electricity which goes through the tube. If the latter doesn't happen, then the bulb is likely to blow.

LED light bulbs are self-regulating and don't require a ballast to function. It is very unlikely they will ever blow thanks to the way electricity passes through the diodes. Retrofit T8 or T5 bulbs can be installed with little effort by bypassing the ballast. This means you don't have to install new fixtures to use LED bulbs.

Even less effort are the direct replacement LED tube lighting bulbs. These bulbs are 'plug-in and play' meaning you just have to replace the bulb to make the upgrade. They have much longer lifespans (up to 50,000 hours), they don't depreciate in light quality like CFLs and save energy. They also save you money by not requiring a qualified electrician for installation.

Industrial Uses for LED Tube Lighting

While the benefits in terms of energy reductions and savings should now be clear, you may wonder what they can be used for. Some, by no means all, include:

• Refrigeration lighting: as refrigeration use coolant systems, they need to use more energy to cool down spaces. If a bulb is giving out heat energy as well as light (sometimes more than in the case of CFLs), then this means the refrigeration units have to work harder. LEDs are perfect as they won't add this extra strain and, therefore, us up more energy and money in the process.


• Warehouse lighting: longitudinal tube lighting can work well as they fill up the spaces between the shelves of warehouses without wasting light on the rows in between.


• Office spaces: LED tub lighting is good for providing even coverage of light, so they have been traditionally used for office areas to keep brightness uniform.


• Mills and plants: mills and plants are notorious for their hazardous waste and pollution problems. A fragile bulb like a CFL is no good in these situations, but the sturdiness of an LED casing means they might not be.

While LED tube lights are good for this overall coverage, they are not the lighting of the future. For large industrial high bay spaces, LED lights can provide new bulbs which provide better quality of light with the same even spread and savings in terms of energy and cost.
