Different Types of LED Light Bulbs and Their Uses (Part 2)

By Leah • Jul 9th 2018

After our first look at HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulb replacements, we continue our report on different types of LED light bulbs with a look at florescent lamp replacements. With these forward thinking products, we are going to show you how these bulbs can meet the requirements of these increasingly outdated technologies and improve upon them significantly.

OEO T8 AC Connect

Florescent light bulbs have many uses, but it is important to point out the slight difference between these and CFLs (Compact Florescent Lamps). They are both gas discharge bulbs which produce light when an electric current runs through them. However, CFLs are used to replace incandescent fixtures, so their size and shape are different.

While they generally have much greater lumen efficacy than incandescent lamps, florescent bulbs still cannot compete with LEDs in terms of energy efficiency and cost effectiveness. Our LED T8 AC connect strip bulbs are up to 50% more energy efficient over their lifespan. With their 50,000 hours of lifespan, they will save you money on both replacements and month to month bills.

However, LED florescent replacements make other improvements which have far reaching positive consequences. They include:

  • Lack of hazardous material: as florescent lamps have to pass the current through gas, a danger is provided. The tubes are often filled with toxic mercury gas. This is not usually a problem, until it comes to breakages and faults. Then safety issues are raised.

  • Lack of flickering: florescent bulbs are prone to flickering. This usually happens nearer the end of their lifetime when the product wears down, gas has dissipated and the current cannot pass through as easily. When this happens, bulbs can flicker at inopportune times. Again, this can raise significant safety issues, but can also negatively affect productivity.

  • Less lumen depreciation: LED bulbs do not suffer lumen depreciation as much as florescent and incandescent bulbs. This means the right amount of light for your industrial purpose can be provided for longer.

  • Less possibility of combustion: when florescent tube bulbs come to the end of their lifetime, they are prone to explode more than other bulbs. Depending on the use, this can be very dangerous (schools, food refrigeration, etc.).

Another issue with florescent lamps is their need for a ballast. This helps start the bulb by slowing the current to the right level. Without them, the bulbs may blow with too much power. The T8 AC connect requires minimum wiring to install a ballast bypass. This saves you time and money on installation, plus all the aforementioned benefits. Coming in 4 ft and 8 ft lengths, these LED florescent replacements are also very versatile.

OEO EZ LED T8 and OEO EZ LED T5-HO

The essential difference of the T8, T12 and T5 is the width of the bulb. You may need different widths for different purposes, but it will effect the amount of light which is emanated. What you don't get is a difference in quality.

Also boasting 50,000 life hours plus up to 5,000 K quality, these bulbs are great for many industrial uses. However, unlike the AC Connect, these bulbs are direct replacement. This means you get all the other benefits, but you have the absolute minimum in terms of installation (like changing a light bulb), plus up to 65% more energy efficient. They are a great choice for any business with the fixtures to handle them. Either way, if you need plug and play or ballast bypass, LED replacements are going to be better for your business.
